Your money

Do you hold my money?

No. Funds move payer → Stripe → each party's bank and never pass through a Microhired account. There is no escrow, no stored balance, and no advances — deliberately, so your money is never exposed to us. More on Security & trust.

Can Microhired move money without my approval?

Money moves only along the path every party signed: collected bills disburse per the locked agreement's splits, nothing else. Changing the splits requires a new agreement version signed by everyone.

What happens to money in flight if Microhired disappears?

It's in Stripe's rails, not ours, so it keeps its protections and its path to your bank. Your executed agreements are also in your inbox — every party gets an emailed copy at signing.

When do payouts arrive?

After the charge settles and a short hold (two business days for card payments, by default), Microhired instructs the transfer and Stripe pays out to your bank on its standard schedule.

Fees

What does it cost?

1% of each bill collected, plus Stripe's processing fee — both off the top, both printed on the bill. Tracking, deals, and agreements are free. The pricing page is one number and a worked example.

Who pays the fee — me or the others?

The deal does. Fees come out of the collected amount before the split, so each party bears them in proportion to their share — and every party sees the identical fee lines.

Why is ACH the default?

It's dramatically cheaper than card (Stripe caps ACH at $5) and harder to dispute, so more of the bill reaches the people who earned it. Payers can still use a card.

Deals & splits

Is the agreement actually binding?

Yes. Accepting terms on Microhired is an electronic signature under the ESIGN Act and UETA: we record identity, timestamp, IP, and a cryptographic fingerprint of the exact terms. Each party receives an executed copy, and the agreement also renders as a signed PDF.

Can a locked agreement be changed?

Only loudly. An amendment creates version N+1, every party signs again, and the old version is marked superseded. If anyone declines, the existing agreement stands. Nothing changes quietly.

Can I use my own contract?

Yes — upload your own PDF and it's sealed into the agreement by its exact bytes (a checksum is recorded), so signatures cover precisely that document. Or start from our standard terms, or draft with AI assistance. Either way, the contract is between the parties; we're the rails and the record, not a law firm.

Do recurring deals work?

Yes. For deals with a cadence, Microhired drafts the next bill automatically; the owner reviews and sends it. Closing a deal stops new bills while in-flight ones still disburse.

Accounts & onboarding

Does everyone in a deal need an account?

Every party to the split does — they join by invite, sign the terms, and connect Stripe to get paid. The payer doesn't: they just receive one invoice and pay it.

What's the Stripe onboarding about?

Before a party can receive payouts, Stripe verifies their identity and bank details (know-your-customer rules). Usually minutes, occasionally a day. A bill can't be sent until every party has cleared it — that's a feature: nobody's share can get stranded.

Are there passwords?

No. Sign-in is by single-use email link, or Google / LinkedIn. Your mailbox is your key, so protect it accordingly.

Data & privacy

What can the other parties see?

Exactly what the deal shows: names, splits, terms, bills, and signature status. That symmetry is the point — everyone in a deal reads the same page. Your other deals and streams are yours alone.

Do you see my bank details? Sell my data?

No and no. Bank, card, and ID details go directly to Stripe — we never see them. No data sales, no ad targeting, no analytics trackers. Details in the Privacy Policy.

Edge cases & taxes

What if a payment is refunded or disputed?

Reversals claw back proportionally from everyone who was paid, per the agreement everyone signed, and payouts tied to a disputed charge pause until it resolves. We record and disburse; we don't arbitrate disagreements between parties.

What if a payout fails?

Transfers are retried automatically — the payout job runs every ten minutes with idempotent operations, so a retry can never double-pay. Persistent failures surface to us for manual attention.

What about taxes?

As the platform of record, Microhired is responsible for required 1099 reporting on amounts disbursed through it, using Stripe's tax tooling. Your own tax treatment is yours — we're not tax advisors.

Can I track income that isn't disbursed through Microhired?

Yes — salary, employer SPIFs, and other streams are track-only entries in your ledger. Automatic splitting and disbursement apply to bills collected through Microhired.
